Tenga Flex Masturbator – Sex Toy Review
My Stunt Cock has become one of Tenga’s biggest fan. He loves when Tenga products end up in my hands for review and it is pretty much an unspoken promise that if anyone offers me any Tenga products to review I am supposed to accept, no questions ask. He don’t care what it is, if it’s from Tenga, he will use it. I’m pretty sure Tenga could slap their name on a black trash bag and my Stunt Cock would eagerly volunteer to masturbate into it… that’s how much he has come to love Tenga toys.
Thankfully, they did not offer us a black trash bag (which we would have accepted, don’t get me wrong…), but rather their newest penis masturbation sensation, the Tenga Flex. And much to my Stunt Cock’s glee I received not one but TWO Tenga Flexes (Flexi?) for review, the Silky White and the Rocky Black! There is about to be a whole lot of masturbatin’ going on in this house (who am I kidding, there is always a whole lot of masturbating going on in this house)! And lucky me, I get to watch a penis be masturbated again and again… you know, for science.
Every time I open up a package from Tenga, there is one thing I am always a little bit awestruck about… how gorgeous their toys usually are! They always seem to have such an elegant simplicity to them, I can’t help but to want to love them. The packaging is always very simple, in this case the Flex sleeves arrived in a clear plastic clam shell cases with minimal marketing on the outside. Sadly, the clam shell is not great for a permanent storage option though, so I kind of wish it came with some kind of little baggie.
At a glance both the Silky White and the Rocky Black Flex sleeves look mostly identical (although different colors). Both Flex Masturbators are composed of a squishy rubbery outer shell which features a spiral texturing that helps the masturbator maintain a strong grip and keep control of the toy, even with slippery lubed up hands. There is also a vacuum hole at one end that allows the user to control the amount of suction happening in the inner sleeve. The cap for both Flex toys also functions as a stand/drying rack for the inner sleeve. Then there is the inner part of the Flex, a white (more of an off white that reminds me a lot of the color of cum…) elastomer sleeve (made from Tenga’s standard TPE material) where all the masturbation magic actually takes place. The only real difference between the Rocky Black and Silky White (besides the obviously black and white difference) is the texture of the inner sleeve and the firmness of the material.
I had my Stunt Cock start with the Silky White which is supposed to be a more gentle experience than the Rocky Black. The material of the Silky White Flex was softer and the texture was much more subtle. It took my Stunt Cock some time to get into the swing of this toy, at first he complained that his hand holding the toy was really feeling the texture from the spiraling case and it was overwhelming and distracting and was keeping him from enjoying the actual toy itself. I’m guessing subtle isn’t his thing… He became convinced he could achieve pretty much the same result by just masturbating with his own lubricated hand. Even though we could look down into the sleeve and see the texture inside, it was barely noticeable when rubbing against his penis. There was nothing that really wowed him about the Silky White. That is until we discovered a little secret about the Flex! So, the spiral design of the case isn’t just a lovely, yet arbitrary aesthetic choice made by Tenga… oh no! Turns out, if you twist the sleeve as the design suggests it creates an interesting little sucking sensation. Figuring this out changed everything! That texture that seemed utterly non-existent before suddenly made an appearance, as twisting the toy while sliding it up and down caused the sleeve to tighten up a bit which in turn enhanced the Flex’s texture.
Having unlocked the secret of the Flex, we were eager to give the Rocky Black Flex a try. So, the Rocky Black is essentially the same as the Silky White except for the material seems to be a little bit firmer and the whole sleeve seemed to be just a bit more tighter. It definitely ended up being a much more intense experience compared to the subtle Silky White. The textures were much more amped up in this version and he had to ease off more than once in order to keep himself from “blowing his load” to quickly and ruining my scientific research.
So, a quick note about size. My Stunt Cock was a bit aggravated with how shallow the inner sleeve seemed to be, he said that his strokes could not go as deep as he wished, which made his strokes feel what he described as ‘stunted.’ The inner sleeve has an insertable length of 5.5 inches, my Stunt Cock is somewhere in the 6ish inches range, so a bit larger than the sleeve is long… but I don’t feel like this should make a huge difference, although I don’t have a penis so I cant really speak for how it actually feels not not have a sleeve stretch the length of my penis. His next issue with it is that he has what is probably a slightly above average penis girth (average being measured here at about 4.59 inches and him being over 5 inches) and he had some minor issues (mostly with the Rocky Black) at squeezing his erect penis into the toys opening. He did get himself inserted and enjoyed the toy, but it was a much more constricting feeling than that of the Silky White. I don’t think this is the fault of the inner sleeve being firmer, as the material is still very stretchy, rather I think it is that the outer sleeve doesn’t allow for any extra stretch because the case is so firm. So, if you are a person of above average girth, you may or may not find these sleeves to be uncomfortable.
A good lube is definitely a must when using the Tenga Flex. At one point my Stunt Cock let the toy dry out and the inner material began to cling to his penis for dear life, he nearly pulled the inner sleeve right out with one stroke. The Rocky Black especially seemed required plenty of lube (and some reapplication), due to the tightness of it, otherwise the dry drag became uncomfortable. The Tenga Flex does come with its own little sachet of lube, but this stuff isn’t really all that great. We opted to use our Pjur and Sliquid lubes instead.
Cleaning the Flex is a pretty straightforward thing. The inner sleeve can be removed from the outer shell for cleaning. The easiest way I found to clean it is to remove the sleeve then flip it inside out and run it under the sink until I feel satisfied that I’ve washed away all traces of ejaculate (how did I end up with the sleeve cleaning job?). It is also worth giving the outer sleeve a good rinse as well, lube really collects in the crevices of that spiraling texture. Once the sleeve is rinsed out it needs to be left to air dry, putting it away damp will only encourage mildew (ew) to grow. The cap of the toy doubles as a drying rack for the sleeve. Just invert the cap to create the stand and slide the sleeve onto the rod. Easy enough.
Putting the sleeve back into the case however is a whole ‘nother can of worms. Weeks later and I am still fighting with getting the Rocky Black fully inserted back into its case. The Silky White, while a bit fiddly, did go back together with a little assistance from the drying rod. I used the cap to kind of poke the sleeve back into place. But the Rocky Black is really playing hard to get.
Unlike our Fleshlight sleeves, I haven’t noticed any kind of tackiness with the Flex sleeves after drying. They seem to dry and return to the same silky smooth texture they arrived in, so I’ve seen no reason to dust it with any sort of ‘renewing powder.’
In the end, my Stunt Cock said these weren’t his favorite Tenga toys. He said these weren’t bad, but he far prefers the Tenga Flip Hole, Air-Tech or the Eggs to either of these Flex toys. The textures the sleeves provided were pleasant enough but there wasn’t any real ‘wow’ factor for him. He said he appreciated the easy grip of the outer shell and we both thought that the discreet design was a nice bonus (sometimes its nice when your sex toy doesn’t scream “HEY! I’M A SEX TOY”). Something else I really appreciate is that the Tenga Flex is on the more budget-friendly end of the reusable masturbator spectrum, which does make it an attractive choice for someone who may be just starting to explore masturbators for the first time or someone looking for a toy that is more portable and discreet than the popular Fleshlight. Overall, I would say that the Tenga Flex is a solid toy with quality construction and even if my Stunt Cock wasn’t completely wooed by them, he enjoyed using them and would gladly do so again if he didn’t have one of his other Tenga favorites on hand. If you are in the market for your first masturbator or are just looking for a budget friendly reusable option (Tenga carries much cheaper, disposable options), go with the Flex, it’s a nice toy.
