Tenga SVR – Sex Toy Review
Vibrating cock rings. Bleh. Just thinking about them leaves my clit screaming in frustration. Just uttering the words make me vomit into my mouth a little bit. Am I being overdramatic? Maybe, but there is honestly nothing sexy about a vibrating cock ring bumping haphazardly against my pubic region, only occasionally hitting the sweet spot before bouncing back into no mans land again. My clit craves constant attention and deep pressure from a vibrating toy, something a vibrating cock ring just never delivers. So, needless to say my experience with vibrating cock rings has been less than stellar up to this point.
While at the Adult Novelty Expo earlier this year my Stunt Cock struck up a conversation with the folks at the Tenga booth and naturally the conversation turned to talking about me, the fabulous Kitten Boheme and my some of my previous Tenga reviews (Kushi, Iroha Mini, Air-Tech Cup) and about things I would like to review in the future. Against my better judgement, I asked for the Tenga SVR… even though every vibrating cock ring I’ve used to date has left me feeling very sexually frustrated, I thought maybe this would be the one to break that curse. I had faith in Tenga, I figured if anyone could create a vibrating cock ring that I wasn’t completely repulsed by, it would be them. So, with my brand new Tenga SVR in hand, I was full of optimism, sunshine, rainbow unicorn farts and every other manner of positive vibes…
The modern, minimal packaging of Tenga products is always a treat. The outer sleeve is clean and simple, depicting an image of the product, the inner packaging is a solid colored box. Inside of that is a black plastic clamshell storage container about the size of a contact lense case (maybe a hair larger). As far as sex toys and storage go, the SVR is pretty discreet, I like that. I’m a fan of anything that makes me look less questionable when my Mom comes to visit…
The Tenga Smart Vibrating Ring, or SVR if you are into keeping things super casual, is made up of a fairly stretchy silicone ring with a 2 inch or so vibrator attached. As a cock ring, this design kind of baffled me a bit. We had some trouble getting the protruding vibrating mass to sit correctly. While in use the vibrating bit kept lolling over to one side or another and would vibrate ineffectively against my inner thigh. I felt like I was constantly having to grab at my Stunt Cock’s penis to readjust the ring. It was distracting and really slowed down my progress towards having an amazing orgasm.
Now, with all that in mind, here is something interesting I have noticed about the SVR… even through the product description on most websites indicate that the Tenga SVR is a vibrating cock ring, the user manual does not. For realisies. The Tenga manual’s suggested use for the SVR is to loop the silicone ring around your middle and ring finger, letting the vibrator droop down and lay against your palm, creating what the user manual describes as a “stimulating touch.” So, I guess you can spice up your hand job game with this? When I slip it over my fingers it doesn’t ready lay flat like the illustrations in the manual, I end up with something more like an erection for my fingers. Now, if this is the actual intended use of the toy, no wonder it makes a terrible cock ring. Also, where did the idea to use it as a cock ring come from? Did we, collectively as a species, decide not to read the manual? In our defense, the thing looks exactly like a vibrating cock ring. It also works exactly like a vibrating cock ring. So I don’t see why we can’t use this as a vibrating cock ring (except for the fact that I think vibrating cock rings suck ass).
WHAT ARE YOU?!? WHY DO YOU EXIST?!? IS IT TO TORMENT ME FOR ALL OF ETERNITY?!?
Dramatics aside, I suppose I’ll just review the Tenga SVR as if it is meant to be both a vibrating cock ring and a vibrating finger ring. Since it appears that whether or not it is meant to, it is sure capable of being both things.
Wrapped around my fingers, it does make fingering myself a little bit more interesting. Although I couldn’t stop thinking about why I was wasting time with my fingers when I have roughly one million sex toys ready and waiting to do the job for me… but I know we aren’t all so lucky, so I continued to plod away at it with my own fingers. The Tenga SVR still work pretty much the same way wrapped around my fingers as it does wrapped around the cock. As my fingers thrust in and out, the vibrations would move or slip off the desired location and I would start to feel irrationally angry at everything. I didn’t have my Stunt Cock handy for the second round of SVR testing, so I can’t really say how this worked giving him a hand job, but I know he doesn’t like most vibrations and I feel like having a hard vibrating lump pressed again his penis shaft while I stroked would not be something he would consider pleasurable (although he would pretend to tolerate it in the name of science, such a trooper).
The only way I really found the SVR tolerable was to just use it like I would any other external vibrator. Holding it against my clit was really the only way I was able to orgasm using this toy. So, if you are anything like me, skip this toy and buy yourself a vibrator instead. The vibrations themselves are not too bad. The SVR seems about on par with one of Tenga’s Iroha Kushi, strong enough to get the job done for me, but not exactly toe-curling. It definitely does not possess the deep rumble I’ve come to adore in toys like the We-Vibe Wish or Doxy, but I wouldn’t really call it buzzy either. It is a pretty mid-level quality vibration. Acceptable.
The Tenga SVR is also easy to operate. First, slip it around your fingers, or a cock, or whatever… I don’t really care what you do with it at this point, you can wear it as a bracelet for all I care. Once you’ve sorted out how you are going to wear the SVR you just need to locate the single button near the base of the toy. The single control button really blends in (especially if you are messing around with this toy in the dark) but if you run your finger over the silicone you should be able to easily feel where the power button is. To turn the SVR on just hold down the button until it begins to vibrate. The toy starts at its gentlest setting then from there you can push the button to cycle through four other speed settings and two rhythm modes (for a total of seven settings).
Like a lot of sex toys these days, the Tenga SVR is rechargeable via an included USB cable. You’ll either need to have an AC adapter or you’ll need to charge the SVR up using the USB port on your computer. It takes about an hour to charge the SVR to full power which so far has given me about an hour and change worth of play time with it.
Now the hard part… what do I recommend? I really don’t think I am the right person for vibrating cock rings. I find them too much of a tease. I need/want/crave constant contact from a vibrator, I want to press it deep down into my clit and not move until I come. If you enjoy vibrating cock rings, I think the SVR is a quality toy. The vibrations are nice, it is made up of mostly constant speeds rather than patterns which I appreciate. Worth the buy if a vibrating cock ring is what you are looking for. As a toy for “stimulating touch” I don’t know… the design is weird, I just don’t know about this cock ring for my fingers thing. I didn’t really find it all that enjoyable, I would rather just use a vibrator. My Stunt Cock isn’t that big on vibrations, so it doesn’t really add anything to a hand job, however if you have a penis that enjoys vibration, it might add something enjoyable for you or your partner. So I guess what I am trying to say is that the Tenga SVR was not the right toy for me personally, but that doesn’t make it a bad toy. Quality and functionally this toy is excellent, it’s just not my jam.
Are you the kind of person who gets a kick out of vibrating cock rings? Think you want to give the Tenga SVR a try? You can pick one up and one of these awesome retailers: Shevibe, Luvoqa and Lovehoney!
The Tenga SVR was provided to me free of charge by Tenga in exchange for my honest review.

Looks like it would be good only for occasional use for something different.
